Paragon Kiln Darby Dipper Crucible

The firebrick top is held in place with two spring latches. (For easy replacement, the top does not have a hinge.)  Access the crucible through a 6” hole in the firebrick top. A firebrick crucible cover is placed over the 6” hole. The cover has a wooden handle, stainless steel band, and a 1/2” lip that fits into the crucible hole. The Little Dipper’s walls, top, and bottom are made of 3” high temperature K-25 firebricks. These bricks are 20%  thicker than standard 2 1/2” firebricks and designed for prolonged high temperature holds. For extra insulation, the walls are wrapped with a ceramic fiber blanket, which is behind the stainless steel case. With the extra insulation and heavy-duty elements, the Little Dipper is reliable even during very long heat soaks. For easy maintenance, tighten the stainless steel top band and kiln case with the case adjustment screws.  The heating elements are seated and  protected in dropped, recessed sidewall grooves. The built-in stand comes with mar-proof plastic feet and provides the firebrick bottom with a full layer of sheet metal support.  The Little Dipper comes with a mechanical relay, which sends power from the controller to the elements. You can order the optional deluxe mercury relay; it lasts much longer than the mechanical relay. We recommend the mercury relay for crucible kilns that will see heavy use.
Platinum Thermocouple - The deluxe S-Type platinum thermocouple with ceramic protection tube is standard on the Little Dipper kiln. This deluxe thermocouple, usually found on large, expensive kilns, far outlasts the standard K-Type.

The Little Dipper glass blower’s kiln will give  you the freedom to enjoy crucible firing in a small space. Mix your own custom glass colors. Make paperweights, blown vessels, stringers, and  much more. Imagine pulling your own neon tubing in this affordable kiln.

As with the walls, the K-25 firebrick lid and bottom are 3” thick, which is 20% thicker than the standard 2 1/2” firebrick. The extra insulation and heavy-duty elements  are designed for very long heat soaks. Check the crucibles through the  peephole, which is tapered for easy viewing. Four hand lifts aid in  moving the kiln.

The Vulcan heats approximately 50 pounds of glass to a molten state. Sidewalls are 4” thick. The extra insulation and heavy 12-gage elements are designed for the stress of very long heat soaks. The deluxe S-Type platinum thermocouple with ceramic protection tube is standard on all Vulcan kilns. This thermocouple far outlasts the standard K-Type.,
The Vulcan has a separate bottom section with a row of 2” high wall bricks, held in place with spring-twist locks. Should a crucible crack during firing and leak glass onto the kiln bottom, merely replace the damaged bottom section.
The Vulcan comes with a 2” thick ceramic fiber board insert that fits into a recess at the top of the walls. Cut a hole in the center of the fiber board to match the top of a crucible. The fiber board holds heat inside the kiln when you open the lid. The Vulcan is 13” wide x 14.75” deep.  Program the digital controller for the exact consistency of glass melt that you desire. The hinged lid floats and has a lock-in lid support, which you can remove if you prefer to use the lid chain. You can also use the kiln for pottery or glass fusing. Comes with a one year warranty and heavy-duty stand.

Furniture: Order the C10-R (10” round x 1/2”) shelf and the correct 1” wide posts to support your crucibles. Not CSA or UL Listed.
